Zico to ‘revert’ back to 4-4-2 for game against Croatia

June 16th, 2006 | By: ShiLou | 43 Comments »

Japan face Croatia on Sunday in a make or break match in Nuremberg. Coach Zico is ready to ditch the 3-5-2 formation that proved disastrous against the Aussies and revert to a 4-4-2 formation.

As this is a must win game for the Blue Samurai, he will hope to add more offensive power by allowing the full backs to push forward to help the four midfielders.

This new formation might work but the Croatians are a hard team to beat as the Brazilians recognised.

Japan will need to defend better as a team and hopefully will get the result required against the Croatians.

the japs had better step up.croatia are a stubborn team as they proved against brazil.what zico should do is to cut off supply to the croatian strikers.jam the midfield, and hit the croatians on the counter attack, also cut off the wings because the croatians love coming through the wings, zico should know better, he is brazilan and he should employ tactics or the blue samurai will see tokypo early.

You guys are too quick saying croatia will win easily. Japan will play better this match, and if they do, they are quite strong..I still see the practise match against Germany in my head, where they were the better team..I predict a Japan win..2-1

You should learn about Taiwan and Japan relationship after WWII. esp. 1952-1972. We were very close allies with US influence.

At least Japan qualified for the Cup again. They still have a chance to save honor.

Judging from the first half’s dismal and pathetic play, neither team deserves to win this game. a draw would serve them well, securing their well-deserved elimination. Leave the game to real teams. Pierre Uncensored http://www.pierretristam.com

Well there u go Japanese pride as I knew it would came thru. Expected nothing less than that from the Japanese, played a brilliant game of attacking football. Deserved to win guys really did, had an open goal opportunity and unfortunately couldn’t quite get the right connection, had some magnificent skill in midfield to get thru the Croatian defence and yea ur goalie is just brilliant, he plays with his heart which is exactly what u want to see from the players and to certain people as I said before Japan is a good side and underestimate them at ur own peril. They are not ranked number 18 in the world for nothing. Great to see the Japanese supporters at the ground in full voice as well, supporting their team all the way, whereas the Croatians who knew where they went, all u could hear thru the match feed was just all Japanese supporters, anyway the point is was fantastic football all round from Japan, the players, the coach(great substitutions today n change of formation as well),the fans, just beautiful n u should be proud of the blue samurai today n for now GO THE SOCCEROOS!!!

Hey now now Liverpool FC from iIsmell something rotten from “down under” ha!
Firstly you know damn well that the
fans your heard singing wre cCoatian fans …800,000 live in Germany, so keep dreaming. Actually
there are probably just as many in Aussie land too ready to rock your country , the wil probably throwing you upo and down in hte air after they win Thursday !!!!
Ha Ha…..
But seriously, the Croatians have no strike capablilty and have not shown that they are anywhere near being serious otr good enought to make it to the next round, so goold luck to them on Thursday. The Aussies are just happy to be there (7 Croatian on the tram Liverpool)
and they are content to run around like chickens with there
heads cut off but I think even tha may be enought obeat Croatia this time….sadly.

pfft ur a person of many contradictions and seem to have given up already what happened? n don’t worry i think anyone who watched that game knows who was supporting their team till the end and who had their heads between their legs. It certainly wasn’t the Japanese they were having the time of their life and it was great to see.

Australia is a multicultural country unlike Croatia, everyone is from somewhere, u don’t hear England crying caus Harry Kewell could’ve played for them or Samoa crying that Cahill was playing for them or Papua New Guinea for Archie Thompson, the Australian team is made up of so many different nationalities, far too many for me to list but I always wonder why some croats think their so special? They’re playing for Australia, they grew up in Australia, their citizens of Australia. Give it up with the whole their Croatian bs. Caus they aint playing for Croatia now are they?

Croatia vs Australia – so many Croatian Australian will be inbetween somehow; Japan vs Brasil; so many Japanese Brazilians will be inbetween somehow(this may not be true?); Group F is really dramatic for so many people – but Japan was just a bit too weak on the last 2 games. Who guess Japan will win over Brazil??

Chill out you guys…I checked this blog to read about the World Cup not racist putdowns or political crap. There are 3 good and 1 exceptional team in group F so lets show them all due respect. LiverpoolFC hit the nail on the head about the players.I’m Australian with Croatian heritage. I’m supporting Australia…Whilst I respect and value my heritage, I was born here and I love this country as do other Australians with Anglo, Asian or European backgrounds.

May the best team win!
