Shinji Ono hoping to score Japan’s 100th goal under Zico

February 22nd, 2006 | By: ShiLou | No Comments »

Shinji Ono said he would like to score Japan’s 100th goal under coach Zico when the team play India in the Asian cup qualifier in Yokohama. He said that himself and the other players will be trying to score once the match starts. Shinji Ono is expected to play his 63rd match under coach Zico who took over in 2002.

The last time both team met, Japan put 11 goals past India without reply in their home and away qualifiers for this summer’s World Cup.

Japan’s European contingent will join up with the squad for next week’s friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina, so the home-based players know that they have to impress to have any chance of remaining in World Cup contention.

Japan also face Yemen and fellow World Cup qualifiers Saudi Arabia in qualifying Group A. The 2007 Asian Cup finals will be co-hosted by Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam.
