Japan World cup dream is over

June 23rd, 2006 | By: ShiLou | 20 Comments »

Japan’s World cup adventure is finally over. They were beaten 4-1 by Brazil earlier tonight which leaves them bottom of Group F table.

Japan played very well in the first half of today’s game and took a early lead with a fantastic goal but Brazil always looked dangerous all night and when they equalised on the struck of half time, I sensed the second half will be tough. And so it turned out.

But I think the Japanese players gave their all and especially goalkeeper Kawaguchi tonight made some fantastic saves.

But it wasn’t to be and I wish both Brazil and Australia the best for the rest of the tournament.

I like to take this opportunity to thank you all for coming by this blog and leaving your fab comments.

Have fun for the rest of the tournament.

The American artist Andy Warhol once famously said that Everybody is famous for 15 minutes.

Well, tonight Japan’s football team only got 12 minutes.

But what fame!

Japan 1 Brazil 0 !

12 minutes for all the players and all the fans and all the Japanese people to remember for all your lives !

12 minutes of everlasting honour and glory be unto them !

I was sorry to see you guys go down like you did tonight ShiLou, you didn’t deserve that. I was busy watching the Australia game so I didn’t get to see the actual play, but a 4-1 scoreline doesn’t do Japan justice in general.

I’m looking forward to plenty of good matches between the Blue Samurai and the Socceroos in the Asian Confederation.

Thanks for your good work blogging for Japan as well.

Well done surely for 12 minutes as Gerard says - still world, please do not take it wrong; this is not what “samurai” means. This time, Japan team let Asians and Japanese down however Japanese are very nice saying “you did the good job!! Well done!!”

H. Nakata could not move after the game was over - as his pride was broken after he wrote “now we fight for the sake of our pride” on his site.

Japan people, be critical to let their pride high; Without such an attitude the level of this team will not get higher however fantastic coach will join in the future.

The strength of Brasil comes from the domestic criticism it faces all the time; however the team keeps winning, the supporters at home complains a lot because they love the team and they want them to be perfect: That is something lacking in Japan.

Japan is over but let’s keep our eyes on Aussies and Canaries; also on Korea!!

As a fan of the Blue Samurai since 2002, the Japanese acquited themselves with honor today. I believe the team did it’s best, and hope they qualify for 2010.

Oh, how disappointing it is for a J-fan like me to see Japan thrashed down by Brazil in the last match in this world cup… The unexpected goal by Keiji Tamada in the 34th minute really fascinate me though, together with the as-usual-fantastic goal saves by Japan’s hero, Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi. Man, though Japan does not advance to the next round, I’m glad to see that Japan has the best goalkeeper of this 2006 World Cup!!! Who else can make such saves (and also the penalty save against the Croatians earlier on). Anyway, if we J-fan have to blame anyone, it’s the defence! I often see relapse in defence, especially in the second half! The only thing I don’t understand is that, why Japan can keep tough in defence in the 1st half, but does not do so in the second half? Huh…. Guess this is all a part of destiny! ^_^
Anyway, I wish Japan does not have to meet the soccer giants (Brazil, Argentina, Germany, etc.) in the first round again next time! Wish you Japan blessings for the next 2010 World Cup in South Africa! Do your best, Japan! Ganbatte, ne!!!! BANZAI!!!!!!! BANZAI!!!!!!

The Japanese defeat started with those final moments against Australia, unfortunately. I was hoping Zico to advance, but after 2 games it was clear that the Japanese team wasn not as strong as I was hoping for.

Here in Rio all my friends predicted high scores for this match based on the last results of Japan. As I said at my blog we won by 3 goals (I said 3:0).

It is heart breaking for me to see that after all the effort Zico placed at the Japanese National Team (being Asian champions and qualifying first on their group) the fans get to watch such a weak performance.

Better luck next time guys!

hey all u bloggers out there!

just want 2 give my condolences 2 japan 4 their wonderful efforts in trying to win a match but unfortunately they didn’t. from the very beginning i was a huge fan of japan even though i was born and have lived in australia 4 all my life. I am not japanese but i know that they will always be the best soccer team ever!!!

goalkeeper yohikatsu kawaguchi made some brilliant saves in all matches but was not strong enough 2 win any matches.

wish them all the best of luck and hope they make it into world cup soccer 2010.

KAWAGUCHI IS REALLY HOT AND
HE’S REALLY CUTE

I for one do not think Japan’s game was weak yesterday; I thought they put up one hell of a fight. Unfortunately, the Brazilians seemed to have come out in full force yesterday and sparkled. Eventually, Kawaguchi just couldn’t maintain the string of incredible saves he was making against the Brazilians who were pelting him left, right, up and down. I’m sorry it ended in such a wide margin. Japan played well.

The Japanese team performance in their last match was the best out of the 3 matches, and I’d think that if they put up such an efford in the match agaist the Australian, they would have qualified for the second round. I was watching the live telecast in the crowd of Brazilian supporters, and of course it was hard for me to cheer up for the Japanese team. But the suprising goal (not really suprising though. The Japanese side put up very good efford to get that goal) revealed my true color. And, for me, though the mighty Samurais were defeated by the Brazialian side, but it was not really dissappointing since the Japanese team became the FIRST team to break the Brazilian defense and the Brazilian conceded their very first goal in this World Cup 2006! And the Samurais are very lucky to have such a great goalkeeper like Kawaguchi, he is such a great man!

Man on the street interview in Tokyo:

“Stupid inferior people all over the rest of the world.

I hate it when they win.

Something must be wrong with this game.

If it was fair, we would always win.

How can anybody argue with that ?”
